THE ENVIRONMENTAL
DILEMMA
At 70's, "Consumer advocacy groups helped create boycotts of harmful or wasteful products and demanded more informative descriptions of products on pack."
Triped in trouble "...include vague phrases such as 'environmentally friendly' or use of 'recyclable' on products for which there is no market for the recyclate"
Because,"An eco-labelling or environmental certification scheme differs from a license"
So,"by acting as an eco-label would not confer competitive advantage"
It is shocking to know that in London citizen will be charged on what they throw. See the detail.
RECYCLING in my city does not work in that way. As it is in early 90's, resources in china are still be treat as precious. In my memory, our parents had to return the glass bottles of the milk delivered on each morning. In that way, they can had a discount for booking next month. Similarly, at that time or even till now, the price of the soft drink are different. It is cheaper in some of the "milk bar" if customer promise to returned the bottles for recycling. As it might involving the risk in this kind of retailing business, it becomes faded and being taken place by another way which is also an very old traditional way, the recyclers. They actually are someone whose livelihood depended on recycling business. They would happy to give you some money accounting on the weight of the bottles; papers or Aluminum. Those time, i still remember they even accepted some electrical devices. Most of my old generation in Shanghai still remember each time on Sunday Morning there must be fun to see people carry on dozens of newspapers at the road side waiting for recycling and just for little pocket money.
But does this that simple? I assume that is kind of philosophy, only when people understand the meaning of being "hungry" not only on food and living must.
To me, I understand and respect that attitude of living. However, old time has passed, the city of Shanghai suddenly become wealthy. No body understand but had to accept the old recycle way not works anymore, simply because no body want to pay for the recycling. However recycling as a business itself still can make you rich in Shanghai. New country side people come to the city and pick the business and become rich. The reason is simple, wasts are resources(Macao,China, in English. Mainly it is the same to other cities in China). And resources are money. When you collecting the resources without paying anything, what will happen if you sell them?
So my question is:
Pay for the wast or give profit from saving?
PP: As long as I know there is a new hot line for recycling in Shanghai(form Shanghai Daily, leading English Newspaper in Shanghai), which might be consider as a "Design".
